The QLINE returns in Detroit with free rides, promises improved service

DETROIT (WWJ) -- The QLINE is getting back on track in more ways than one!

The Detroit streetcar -- which was paused in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic -- will operate free of charge for the remainder of the year.

Officials say the QLINE’s free return will help boost local businesses along the Woodward corridor in the midtown and downtown areas.

Riders can also expect improved service on the streetcar, which promises that it has implemented “new operating procedures and technology to make QLINE reliable.”

While services were on pause during the pandemic, M-1 RAIL transitioned its operations in-house.

Over the last several months, M-1 also worked to rebuild its management and operations staff, and teamed up with the Michigan Department of Transportation to ensure the street car’s safe return as it reintegrated back into service on Woodward.

“We’re excited to welcome back riders to the QLINE,” said Lisa Nuszkowski, new president of M-1 RAIL. “Our team is looking forward to providing a great experience on our streetcars and reconnecting people to the places that want to go along the Woodward corridor.”

The QLINE will run every 15 minutes upon restart, with hours from 6 a.m. to midnight, Monday-Friday, and 8 a.m. to midnight on Saturday and Sunday.
