Your Weekend Transfer Rumour Round-Up

How are we back to transfer rumour season, already?

It’s not even October, but the rumour mill rests for no one. Let’s dive in to this weekend’s dubious gossip. Per reports from absolutely no one close to Liverpool, the Reds are almost ready to sign Juventus winger, Federico Chiesa, Brighton midfielder, Yves Bissouma, and are (as they have been for months now) on the brink of bringing Erling Haaland on board.

It goes without saying that there are elements of the team that need to be tightened up—especially when we see the evidence of key players being injured once again (please get better soon, Thiago). But all these rumours are coming from non-Liverpool sources, and it’s incredibly likely that it’s just various agents trying to drum up interest (and increase transfer fees) before January comes around.

Most unlikely of the rumours is the one where Haaland ends up a Red. Here’s what Borussia Dortmund’s head, Hans-Joachim Watzke, has to say about it:

“It has not yet been decided whether [Haaland] will really leave in the summer. We’ll just have a look. I heard someone say: ‘They have to sell Haaland because they are listed on the stock exchange.’ This is all bulls***.

“The decision whether someone is sold at our company is made by the management and only by the management.”

So that’s that. Liverpool will presumably make some sort of motion towards transfers in the coming months, and they may even involve Chiesa or Bissouma. But until there’s an actual sign from someone who knows what’s happening with the Reds’ management, it’s not worth paying attention to.
