North Dakota Men's Golf Heads to Iowa for Zach Johnson Invitational

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of North Dakota men's golf program will return to action this week when it competes at the Zach Johnson Invitational in West Des Moines, Iowa on Sept. 27 and 28. Drake University will host the event at Glen Oaks Country Club.

The tournament will feature live scoring from BirdieFire with 36 holes played on Monday and 18 on Tuesday in a shotgun start. Play will begin Monday at 8:30 a.m. and at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. North Dakota will be paired with St. Thomas and Western Illinois during the first round.

Monday's weather forecast calls for lots of sun and a high of 91 degrees, while Tuesday will also bring sun and a high of 89. Tee time temps will be in the mid-to-high 60s.

Freshman Lucas Feterl led North Dakota in its first tournament of the season at Valparaiso, carding his first round under par (-1) in the final round of the Valpo Fall Invitational. Feterl was the lone Fighting Hawk to record three rounds under 80 at Sand Creek Golf Club in Chesterton, Ind., finishing tied for 22nd in the 12-team and 73-player field. UND finished ninth at the tournament, 15 strokes shy of a top-half finish.

The Glen Oaks course at Glen Oaks Country Club plays at a par of 71 and at 6,898-yards with three par 5s and four par 3s. The course itself plays straight through rolling hills and tree-lined fairways with five small dog legs. Lakes, creeks and ponds are featured in the course as well, challenging its golfers to hit over and away from them during play. Piles of rocks and cornfields also garnish the course to complete the Midwest ambiance the course has to offer.

North Dakota will return to action on Oct. 4 and 5 for the Stampede at The Creek, hosted by Omaha at Indian Creek Golf Course in Omaha, Neb.
