Oppo Watch Free is the cheaper alternative to the Oppo Watch 2

When smartwatches first burst onto the scene, the approach that companies like Apple had was that these devices could compete with more traditional timepieces, and as such they created luxurious variants that cost an insane amount of money.

It didn’t take long for other manufacturers such as Xiaomi to realize that maybe going in the opposite direction could be better, which resulted in them flooding and dominating the wearables market with devices like the Mi Band series, which has also since prompted other manufacturers to respond in kind.

The latest to hop on board the bandwagon is none other than Oppo, who over in China has announced its latest wearable in the Oppo Watch Free, a more affordable alternative to the Oppo Watch 2.

In terms of design, the Oppo Watch Free looks like an elongated version of the Oppo Watch 2 with a more rectangular face, but features the use of polycarbonate for its case, which could explain why it’s so cheap.

It features a 1.64-inch display and according to Oppo, is good for 14 days of use on a single charge. It also packs quite a number of useful features like a heart rate monitor, stress and sleep tracking, and also support for more than 100 sports modes so you shouldn’t have difficulty finding the activity you want to track.

The Oppo Watch Free also supports NFC so it will work for contactless payments as well as public transport cards. The Oppo Watch Free will be priced starting at CNY 549 and CNY 599 for the NFC version. At the moment there is no mention if there are plans to bring it outside of China, but we’ll keep an eye out for it if it does.
