One person was killed and five others were injured after a two-vehicle crash in Pacoima Sunday evening, officials said.

PACOIMA, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A man was killed and five others were injured after a two-vehicle crash in Pacoima Sunday evening, officials said.

The crash happened near 10460 Laurel Canyon Blvd. around 8:15 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

A red-colored vehicle involved in the crash hit an apartment building after the initial collision.

The crash left the male driver of a white pickup truck dead at the scene, according to LAFD. Investigators said the pickup driver made a right-hand turn from a side street onto Laurel Canyon, into the path of the other vehicle and the two collided.

Two people were temporarily trapped in their vehicle but were later freed by firefighters, LAFD spokesman Nicholas Prange said.

Five other people were hurt in the crashes - two men and three juveniles, Prange said. All five were transported to a hospital.

An 11-year-old boy who was in the apartment building when it was struck by a vehicle was evaluated by paramedics but did not require additional treatment, Prange said.

Investigators said it doesn't appear drugs or alcohol were a factor, but they believe speed did play a role.
