PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown took a 1-0 lead into the second half for the second straight game, but the Georgetown Hoyas tied the game in the third quarter and broke through in a shootout for a 2-1 victory Sunday afternoon at Goldberger Family Field.

Brown drops to 3-5 (0-1 Ivy League) on the season while Georgetown improves to 4-5 overall and remains 0-2 in Big East conference play.

Yesterday was a long day; the fatigue was apparent in today's effort," said head coach Jill Reeve. "We will be utilizing this week to get our team healthy and to full capacity in preparation for Dartmouth."

Brown scored its goal late in the first quarter off its second penalty corner of the quarter. Lindsey Ross input the ball to the top of the circle, where Mikayla Walsh stopped the ball for van Rootselaar, who fired her sixth goal of the season past Hoya goalkeeper Clara Weets (5 saves).

After a back-and-forth second quarter, Georgetown tied the game off a penalty corner of their own early in the third quarter. Emma Veen der van received a pass from Sydney Stephenson and beat Brown goalie Calista Manuzza (7 saves).

Manuzza replaced Brown goalkeeper Julie Brine to start the second half. Brine made one save in the opening 30 minutes of play.

Cards became the story of the second half as the teams combined for three green cards and three yellow cards. Georgetown was assessed two greens and one yellow while Brown received one green and two yellows.

Georgetown had a golden opportunity to take the lead with 2:45 to play in regulation, but Brown freshman Julia Hitti made a spectacular play to prevent the goal and pick up a defensive save off a Hoya shot from Sophie Towne.

Brown survived four consecutive Georgetown penalty corners in the first overtime period to keep the game tied at 1-1. In the second overtime period, Brown was unable to convert on a pair of penalty corners while Georgetown failed to convert on one opportunity.

A shootout decided this one as the second overtime period ended with the game still tied. The Bears and Hoyas each converted three of their first four chances to send it to the fifth and final round all square. Walsh was unable to convert for the Bears while Georgetown's Elena Leahy scored to give the victory to the Hoyas.

Brown hosts Dartmouth (4-5, 0-1 Ivy League) in a return to conference play next Saturday (Oct. 2) at Goldberger Family Field. The game is slated to begin at 12 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.
