Hispanic Heritage Festival celebrates Latinx community in Fayetteville
The NWA Hispanic Heritage Festival was held Sunday at the Fayetteville Square.Sunday's festival featured art, dancing, music, food, a car show and more to celebrate the Latinx culture in Northwest Arkansas.Joette Rodriguez said she brought her family to the festival so they could connect with their roots."We want to remember our roots and my daughter’s roots, my husband’s roots. This is a great way to see some of the things they should be celebrating," Rodriguez said.Across town at Lake Fayetteville Park, players hit the field for the Hispanic Heritage Festival Soccer Tournament.Karen Sosa played in the tournament and said Hispanic Heritage Month is important to help celebrate diversity."Northwest Arkansas has a big population of the Latino community, so it's super important to represent people of all the places, since we are all here," Sosa said.As part of the festival, the Fayetteville Chamber and First Security Bank are partnering to award two graduating seniors in the Latinx community with a $1,000 scholarship.The deadline to apply for the scholarships is Oct. 17.
