HARKER HEIGHTS, Texas — A fire near Stillhouse Hollow Lake near Harker Heights occurred earlier today just feet from homes and Bell County residents.
Harker Heights Fire Chief Paul Sims said the wildland blaze burned 68 acres near Dana Peak Sunday morning.
The fire had also spread to Comanche Road and later into a nearby subdivision called 'The Ridge'.
Four to six homes were endangered, however, no injuries or structural damage has been reported to local authorities.
Chief Sims said in a news conference tonight the fire is under control and wildland firefighters with the Texas A&M Forest Service are clearing the area of any further danger.
Bucket drops were also utilized to help combat the remains of the fire, according to the Starlight Flight Company. They are reporting their efforts will continue tomorrow morning for mop-up operations.
"We had ash falling onto the house!" shared Keith George, a local resident via Facebook.
25 News has received calls from local residents saying they were asked to evacuate by local authorities; they have since been allowed back into their homes.
Harker Heights Fire Department is leading this effort with assistance from Bell County's Mutual Aid Strike Team.
