A North Hollywood man was fatally struck by a driver who fled the scene as the victim crossed a street on Saturday evening, Sept. 25, the Los Angeles Police Department said Sunday, Sept. 26.

The crash happened at 9:43 p.m. in North Hollywood when the 55-year-old pedestrian was crossing Oxnard Street east of Farmdale Avenue mid-block, the LAPD said. A dark van was headed west on Oxnard when it collided into the pedestrian, police said.

The driver of the van fled the scene headed west on Oxnard without identifying themselves or rendering aid to the victim, police said.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded and transported the pedestrian to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, the LAPD said.

The pedestrian’s identity wasn’t immediately released pending notification of next of kin, police said.

A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to the hit-and-run driver’s identification, apprehension and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise, the LAPD said.

Anyone who may have witnessed or has information regarding the crash is asked to contact Detective Davis at 818-644-8032.
