CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The University of Michigan completed play at the three-day ITA Midwest Regional Championships on Sunday (Sept. 26), hosted by Illinois at both the Atkins Tennis Center and the University of Illinois Tennis Courts.

Competing for the Wolverines were senior Anca Craciun, freshman Julia Fliegner and sophomore Merri Kelly. By reaching the round of 16 in singles action, both Fliegner and Kelly punched their tickets to the singles main draw at the ITA Super Regionals, Oct. 22-25, at Ohio State.

Fliegner and Kelly each earned first-round byes in the singles main draw, with both Wolverines winning a pair of matches to reach the round of 16. Fliegner entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed and did not drop a set to play her way into next month's event. The Wolverine freshman, making her collegiate debut, only lost six total games across the two matches.

Kelly won her first match following the bye in straight sets before rallying for a 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 win over Notre Dame's Maeve Koscielski to earn a spot in the Super Regional.

Craciun ultimately fell one match short of qualifying for the Super Regional, winning her first two matches before falling in three to UIC's Ana Jover. Craciun played a consolation match on the final day of action, getting a 6-2, 6-3 win over Notre Dame's Katerine Bellia to finish her weekend with a 3-1 record.

Kelly and Fliegner teamed up in the doubles main draw, reaching the third round following a first-round bye. The Wolverine pair's run came to end in the third round, falling in a tiebreaker, 8-6, to drop an 8-7 decision to a DePaul duo.

Michigan will continue the fall portion of its season next Friday through Sunday (Oct. 1-3), hosting the Wolverine Invitational at the Varsity Tennis Center.
