A fire erupted during Sunday school at the First Church of God in Nappanee.
The fire happened just before 10 Sunday morning -- and no one was injured.
the pastor of the church is still in high spirits even though it's a big loss.
Pastor Sam Bennett says even though it’s a difficult time, he wanted to thank all the local fire departments who came together to help.
Members of the church heard an alarm and within 30 seconds the entire building was filled with smoke.
Pastor Bennett grabbed a fire extinguisher, but it was too late.
Members of the church rushed through the building to get everyone out and called 911.
After the fire departments arrived it took an hour and a half to put out the flames.
The fire completely gutted the 50-year-old building, but the pastor says the supportive community has been a blessing.
“You know we'll continue to be a church, I am confident that we will rebuild. I'm confident that our people will come together, we have a great church body, and a great group of people in this community. We have great support from our community.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
