Road Split

Haley Mossmer scored twice, but Stanford fell on the road at Maine.

ORONO, Maine – Haley Mossmer scored twice, and has found the back of the cage in four consecutive games, but Stanford fell on the road at Maine, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon. Stanford drops to 2-3 (1-1 America East) while Maine improves to 5-5 (2-0 America East).

"This was a tough loss for us today," said head coach Roz Ellis. "The tenacity the team displayed is something the staff experiences from them daily. We were extremely pleased with their relentless problem solving and attacking creativity."

Mossmer's two goals give her a team-best five on the season, and three over the weekend. Juli Porto and Fenella Scutt registered assists on the scoring plays, respectively.

Mossmer gave Stanford the lead after redirecting a crossed ball from Porto past the netminder and across the line. The Cardinal led for nearly the entirety of the second quarter, before Maine tied the game with no time on the clock on a penalty corner.

"Maine is a very strong squad with a variety of threats," continued Ellis. "It was a good battle. Back to work next week, we will keep chipping away and advance."

The Black Bears scored three unanswered goals before Mossmer added her second, turning and firing into the lower right corner in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter.

Stanford returns home for a Friday contest with UC Davis. The game gets underway at 6 p.m. on Pac-12 Insider.
