STATESVILLE, N.C. — Police have opened an investigation after finding a man, with a gunshot wound to the head, dead in the Statesville Police Department parking lot on Sunday.
Officers say around 1 p.m. they noticed a car in the parking lot of the police department on S. Trade Street that appeared to be running with the driver slumped over the steering wheel.
When opening the vehicle to talk with the driver, officers say they saw that the man was suffering from a gunshot wound to the head that appeared to be self-inflicted.
Officers then advised dispatch to request EMS to respond to the scene, and when they showed up, they declared the man dead.
Police say the victim was later identified as Tracy Knight of Statesville.
