NBA Training camps lie just a few days away, but when the Phoenix Suns open up theirs up, Devin Booker will not partake. Due to health and safety protocols, the team’s star shooting guard will need to sit out for a few days, putting the Suns in an odd position to begin their next campaign.

Besides mentioning Booker’s status, the Suns neglected to provide any additional comments about the affair. Easily as Phoenix’s best player, Booker’s inability to complete this tune-up session naturally feels somewhat alarming for the Suns.

Last year, Booker averaged 25.6 points, 4.3 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game for Phoenix. He earned All-Star honors for the second straight season, and largely contributed to what went down as the team’s fifth most winningest season of all time.

Several reports surfaced last night detailing other NBA players, including Kyrie Irving and Johnathan Isaac, that also plan to miss their team’s training camps due to unvaccinated statuses. However, Booker’s vaccination status remains unknown at this time.

Booker last suited up for the Suns roughly two months ago, as the team played deep into July amidst their run to the NBA Finals. Right after that, he also went straight to Japan to play for Team USA for two additional weeks. Training camp represents a quick turnaround, so this upcoming hiatus for Booker has a bit of a silver lining in it, allowing him to receive some much needed additional rest due to it.

The Suns expect themselves to contend for a title yet again this year. They reassembled their roster by bringing back veteran point guard Chris Paul, as well as sixth man Cameron Payne. Phoenix also added veteran big man JaVale McGee as a free agent, and struck a deal with the Brooklyn Nets to land sharpshooter Landry Shamet.

With so much to play for, this new roadblock for the Suns cannot help but feel incredibly annoying for all parties involved.
