Briscoe had issues flying out of Charlotte to Las Vegas
Today, the NASCAR Cup Series takes the green flag in Las Vegas, NV. It’s a playoff race at the 1.5-mile of Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Some teams have planes of their own and some drivers do as well. For a race on Sunday, teams will leave on Friday or Saturday.
However, Chase Briscoe is on baby watch. He elected to wait and fly out of Charlotte, NC the morning of the race in Las Vegas, NV.
As he sat boarded on the place this morning, technical issues surfaced on the plane. The plane he boarded struck a bird and caused electrical issues.
Initially, the flight takeoff was delayed. An hour later, the whole flight was canceled.
Briscoe began scrambling for a plane. He reached out via twitter, looking for anyone flying a private plane out of Charlotte.
He also bought a second ticket, in case he needed it. However, American Airlines was able to place him on a ‘backup plane’ and get him to Las Vegas. Problems averted.
Chase Briscoe stated at 6:47am, “Flying commercial to Vegas this morning since I’m in baby watch and the team planes left yesterday. Got on the plane, then we got delayed because it had hit a bird, now the computer system is out and taking us back to the gate…”
“.@AmericanAir anyway I can get off this plane just sitting at the gate so I can make the 9am?”
“They just said they are trying to figure out error codes and it will be another 30 minutes until they make a decision.”
At 7:37am he said, “Flight cancelled anyone have a plane in Charlotte????”
An updated at 8:27am, “Bought a seat, just boarded another plane.”
“Pulled the backup plane out so hopefully this one is good to go, bought a seat on the 11:25 just in case this one doesn’t go. Crazy morning left the house at 5:30am! Hopefully I don’t get there and @MarissaBriscoe_ go into labor.”
“What’s the ruling on pulling the backup plane out? Also does Vegas have lights?”
Briscoe concluded the events with, “I’ve heard of other racecar drivers having nightmares of being late for a race and I’ve had them myself before, let me tell you it’s just as terrifying in reality as it is your dreams.”
Briscoe is in his debut season in the NASCAR Cup Series. He drives the No. 14 for Stewart-Haas Racing. So far, he’s collected three top-10 finishes in 29 starts.
