Colorado Rockies game no. 156 thread: Kevin Gausman vs Antonio Senzatela

The Rockies look to avoid getting swept by the Giants, who are looking to claim their NL West crown.

The final weekend home game for the Colorado Rockies is upon us at last, and after back-to-back 7-2 losses during Larry Walker Weekend the team is looking to drag up one last bit of home Rockies magic. It’s a tall order against the 100+ win San Francisco Giants, who are looking to claim the NL West crown after a surprisingly dominant season.

On the mound for the Rockies is Antonio Senzatela, who had his streak of seven straight quality starts ended against the Dodgers his last time out. Senzatela has been one of the Rockies’ best and most consistent starters this season and is boasting a career year because of it. While pitching the most innings of his five-year career so far at 150, he’s posted the second-best ERA of his career at 4.14, which is also the best ERA in the Rockies rotation. As Senzatela makes his final start at Coors Field for the 2021 season, keeping the Giants in check for as long as he can will be his job if the Rockies want to avoid being swept.

On the bump for the Giants is Colorado native and Grandview High School product Kevin “The Gasman” Gausman. The right-handed Gausman emerged as the Giants' ace this year, with his first All-Star nod and a stellar ERA of 2.92 with 211 strikeouts. However, in his last three starts he's given up a lot of contact with at least eight hits each game and at least three earned runs. At the same time, his starts have gotten shorter. His last time out he made it just four innings. The problem is that if the Rockies drive Gausman out of the game, they have the Giants' stellar bullpen to contend with.
