The Buffalo Bills announced their Week 3 inactives on Sunday morning and many of the names have already been on the inactive list this year.
Buffalo announced that RB Matt Breida, OT Tommy Doyle, DT Harrison Phillips, DE Efe Obada and DE Boogie Basham would not play on Sunday against the Washington Football Team.
Breida is a new addition to the inactive list. The veteran running back did not have much success in Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers and was likely active last week in the event that Isaiah McKenzie’s shoulder injury gave him any issues in the return game. With McKenzie seemingly fine, Buffalo does not need to have Breida active for this week’s game.
Tommy Doyle and Boogie Basham, both 2021 draft picks, are inactive for the third time this season. Efe Obada and Harrison Phillips were also inactive one week ago for the Bills. Late last week, Obada suffered an injury that kept him out of the game against the Dolphins. Buffalo’s rotation of A.J. Epenesa, Greg Rousseau, Jerry Hughes and Mario Addison thrived so Buffalo likely felt that an additional defensive end was not necessary for today’s game against the Football Team.
As for Phillips, it continues to be a numbers game for the defensive tackle. Star Lotulelei, Ed Oliver, Justin Zimmer and Vernon Butler are all seemingly ahead of the veteran on the team’s depth chart at this point in time.
