STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.— Another hurricane being tracked by meteorologists over the Atlantic Ocean has been upgraded to a Category 4, while it remains uncertain if it will make landfall in the U.S.

Hurricane Sam became the seventh hurricane of the 2021 Atlantic tropical season on Friday morning, and has since intensified to a Category 4 with winds reaching 145 miles per hour, Accuweather reported.

Some meteorologists cautioned the storm could turn toward the U.S. by the first weekend in October, though a hurricane specialist at the National Hurricane Center told NPR over the weekend it’s unlikely.

On Staten Island, the National Weather Service forecast is showing sunny skies Sunday and Monday, with high temperatures hovering around 73 degrees and 79 degrees, respectively. Both nights will be cooler, with temperatures dropping to the mid 50s Sunday and low 60s Monday.

Showers are possible Tuesday, then skies should clear again with highs in the high 60s and low 70s Wednesday and Thursday.
