Suspect identified in Pueblo Chile & Frijoles Festival shooting

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Pueblo Police Department identified a suspect involved in the shooting at the Pueblo Chile and Frijoles Festival.

Saturday, September 25, officers responded to the 100 block of S. Union Ave. on reports of a shooting during the Pueblo Chile and Frijoles Festival. According to our news affiliate the Pueblo Chieftain, the incident happened near Angelo's Pizza Parlor.

At the scene, officers found one man who had been hit by gunfire. Officers shut down the festival.

According to police, the initial investigation revealed a disturbance between two men happened. That's when one of the men shot multiple times at the other. The suspect was not caught.

Sunday, PPD identified the suspect as 18-year-old Victor Villalobos. Police obtained an Attempted 1st Degree Murder arrest warrant for Villalobos.

The Pueblo Chile and Frijoles Festival released a statement regarding the incident:

We are saddened about the unfortunate events that transpired last night. Our hearts are with victim and everyone affected. The safety of our festival patrons is of the utmost priority. The Chile & Frijoles Festival has always been a community event that we want families to feel comfortable attending. We will continue to have security and Pueblo Police presence throughout the festival footprint as we plan to reopen today at 10am. Today’s festival events including Chili & Salsa Showdown, The dedication of Chile tribute to Rod Slyhoff and Jalapeno Eating contest will continue as planned.
