After stepping away from the Octagon in 2015, Nick Diaz returned to the UFC ring for the first time tonight. He faced an old foe Robbie Lawler. Even though Diaz lost via technical knock-out in the third round, the former Strikeforce welterweight champion is glad to be back competing.

Regarding his return to the UFC, Diaz said this. (via MMA Mania)

“I’m glad at least I put on a show… A lot of stress coming into this one. I don’t have no excuses. I had a long time off and I knew I had it coming. I don’t know how this fight got set up. I had to switch up my whole management and set up, the way the fight got set up. It was just a bum rap. No excuses. I had it coming and he was in great shape. I knew I was leaking here, so I didn’t want to make too much of a mess. But I’m glad to be back. I’m glad I put on a little show for you.”

Understandably, Diaz was a little rusty coming into his first UFC fight in a while. He hasn't fought an MMA match since his suspension in 2015. However, all things considered, the returning fighter fought a great fight against Lawler, trading blows with him effectively during the first few rounds. The UFC match ended abruptly when Diaz caught a right hook from Lawler 44 seconds into the third round. The former crumpled to the floor, and the referee thought it best to end the match.

The match may have gone more or less as expected by fans, but most people are hoping that Diaz sticks around this time for longer. Here's to hoping Nate Diaz doesn't run into any troubles like he did before his departure from the UFC in 2015.
