Football Nearly Pulls Off Upset vs. Wyoming, 24-22

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. - The UConn football team (0-5) nearly pulled off the upset against undefeated Wyoming (4-0), losing 24-22 on Saturday afternoon at Pratt & Whitney Stadium.

The Huskies carried a 13-10 lead into the fourth quarter after leading throughout the game. The Huskies scored on the opening drive of the game with a seven-play, 45-yard drive that resulted in a Joe McFadden 28-yard field goal. 

The freshman kicker drilled a career-high three field goals on Saturday including a 35-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to make it 16-10.

UConn jumped out to a 13-0 lead with a Tyler Phommachanh 42-yard touchdown pass to Jay Rose sandwiched between a pair of field goals.

However, Wyoming was able to respond by scoring a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to take a 24-16 lead.

With 3:34 on the clock, the Huskies put together a final drive that covered 14 plays and 64 yards that resulted in a Nate Carter 2-yard touchdown with four seconds to go to make it a two-point game, 24-22.

The Huskies tried to tie the game but Phommachanh's pass to Aaron Turner was knocked down and the Huskies upset effort fell short. 

Carter led the Huskies on the ground with 10 rushes for 65 yards and that fourth quarter touchdown. Aaron Turner posted a career-high six catches for 49 yards while Phommachanh passed for a career-high 171 on 19 completions.

Jeremy Lucien led the way on defense with nine tackles and an interception and Myles Bell secured his first career interception.
