A patient being transported from Uintah County has died while being transported to Utah County.

Erica Marquez, 38, was medically cleared at Ashley Regional Medical Center and was being taken to a behavioral health facility in Utah County by Uintah County Sheriff’s deputies, as required by law, they stated.

Deputies said they noticed Marquez experiencing a medical problem near Myton in Duchesne County. Marquez is from Vernal, which is about 45 minutes away.

They said their vehicle was immediately stopped so they could provide help, including CPR.

Officials said an ambulance was called to the scene but EMTs were unable to resuscitate Marquez.

“The Duchesne County Sheriff's Office is working with the State Bureau of Investigations on the case and hope to have more information soon,” they stated.

Sheriff Travis Tucker said Marquez's body has been sent to the medical examiner’s office for examination and autopsy results are pending.
