Mercedes-AMG Petronas superstar Lewis Hamilton is taking full responsibility of his disappointing performance at the Sochi Autodrom.

Lewis Hamilton looked good in and had set the pace in both Q1 and Q2 in this year’s Russian Grand Prix. However, things took a huge turnaround in Q3 after a crash into the pit wall forced Mercedes to change the seven-time world champion’s front wing.

The devastating crash cost Hamilton a shot for pole position, leaving him P4 on the grid heading into the Russian GP.

Addressing the terrible incident, Hamilton admitted that it was “100%” his fault and he is truly “disappointed” as he knew he could take over the race if it wasn’t for the crash.

“It was 100% my fault, so I’m really sorry to the team,” Hamilton of his pit lane crash via Formula One’s official website. “It was right on the cusp of timing to come in [for slicks], so I was really trying to rush to come in and out as quick as possible.”

“Ultimately, I’m really disappointed in myself, because up until then, I was clean, every lap, boom boom, no problem,” he added. “A silly one, but you live and you learn. There’s nothing I can do about the past now, I’ll just hope the car can be fixed for tomorrow and I’ll give it everything I’ve got.”

McLaren’s Lando Norris, meanwhile, has claimed his maiden pole position and will be followed by Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Williams’ George Russell on the grid.
