MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State soccer team travels to Mount Pleasant, Michigan, for a Mid-American Conference matchup with Central Michigan on Sunday. The Cardinals look to break a three-match scoreless streak against the Chippewas. The match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start time.

The Cardinals enter the contest with a 2-4-1 overall record and are 0-0-1 in MAC play. The Chippewas come into the match with an overall record of 3-4-0 and are 0-1-0 in the MAC. Ball State enters Sunday with an overall record of 8-16-2 in the series with Central Michigan. The squads split the two contests last season as both teams won 2-1 in overtime at home.

Nicky Potts and Chelcy Ralph are tied for the team lead with four points as they each have recorded two goals. Melissa Diceman, Avery Fenchel, Kennedy Metzger, and Emily Simmons each have added one goal. Alex DeRuvo has started all six contests in goal for the Cardinals and has made 22 saves on the year.

Of Ball State's eight goals this season, three have come via the penalty kick. Ball State's two penalty kick goals at Valparaiso (Aug. 22) are indeed a rare feat and mark the first time Ball State has scored on two penalty kicks in the same match going as far back as the 2003 season. Prior to the three penalty kick goals this season, the Cardinals only had one penalty kick goal in the last two years combined. The program record for penalty kick goals in a season is five by the 2007 squad.

Ball State is one of only 14 programs in the country to score at least three penalty kick goals this season. Princeton leads all NCAA Division I programs with four, while BSU is tied with 12 other programs with three. Overall, Ball State's offense ranks 177th out of 336 NCAA Division I programs with a 1.33 goals-per-game average, while its 5.67 shots on goal per game are sixth in the MAC and 186th nationally.
