Lock Haven, PA. - The Wheeling University Women's Cross Country team was back on the course on Saturday when they traveled to the Lock Haven Invitational. They had two top 100 finishers in the 249-runner field as they continue to improve on their way to preparing for the 2021 Mountain East Conference (MEC) Championships on October 23
rd.
Leading the way for the Cardinals was junior
Savanaugh Anderson, who finished 60
th in the field with a time of 23:45.5. Anderson regained the top spot in the field for Wheeling and finished 60
th in the field while posting her best time of the season. She was a top-20 finisher among MEC opponents for the second meet in a row and improved her time from her first meet by two minutes from the Bethany College Invitational.
Wheeling's other finisher was senior
Caroline Fodor, who finished 91
st overall with a time of 24:25.4 and gave Wheeling two top-100 finishers in the race. Fodor shaved a minute off her 8K time from the first meet of the season and showed what she can do against some of the top MEC Competition this season.
In total, four MEC teams made the trip to Lock Haven, with the University of Charleston taking second in the field. With two more races before the MEC Championships on October 23
rd, Wheeling is hoping for continued improvement as they train to compete with the best in the conference.
The Wheeling University Women's Cross Country team is back in action on October 9
th, when they head to the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.
