Down Syndrome Innovation hosted their 4th annual Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk in Columbia.
Vice President of Philanthropy Amy Stoll said 35 teams, who have a loved one or a friend with Down Syndrome, have been raising money to help mid-Missouri families.
Stoll said their goal is to raise $65,000, and as of Saturday morning teams raised $60,000.
Each year, around 6,000 individuals are born with Down Syndrome.
The fundraiser supports year-round individualized therapeutic services, educational programming, and support services for individuals with Down Syndrome and their families.
Stoll noted the funds raised will go to several families in Central Missouri.
A bulk of that money goes toward [supporting] every family where ever they need it in their journey with us. It's not specific to any one family. We take those funds and allocate them throughout the course of our work here in central Missouri.
Stoll said the top team four years in a row, the Livin' It Up with Lydia walk team, has raised $10,000 this year.
She mentioned the organization still needs to count the funds they raised from today's event and hopes it's enough to reach their goal.
