FORT MCCOY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Congresswoman Gwen Moore was joined Saturday, Sept. 25, by Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar and members of the Milwaukee Muslim Women's Coalition to tour the facilities and see Afghan refugees at Fort McCoy.

The U.S. House Representatives toured the army base and learned about plans to re-settle the Afghan refugees who are being housed at the Wisconsin base.

Moore told media at Saturday's tour that some of the Afghan refugees are already starting new lives in this country.

"People will not just be thrown out of Fort McCoy before there are arrangements made, we heard one woman is on her way to Georgia, we'll be very fortunate if some of them would stay here in Wisconsin," said Moore.

Approximately 13,000 Afghan refugees have been transferred to Fort McCoy following the U.S. Military pullout in Afghanistan.
