Post nets 10 kills, LCU downs Midwestern State University

WICHITA FALLS — Sage Post finished with 10 kills to help Lubbock Christian claim a 17-25, 25-13, 25-18, 25-17 victory over Midwestern State University on Saturday in Lone Star Conference action at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

With the victory, the Lady Chaps (8-4, 4-0) kept their undefeated mark in conference play. MSU dropped to 3-9 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

Jalee Sims dished out 31 assists and recorded 13 digs to help on offense and defense for LCU.

LCU men's soccer

CANYON — Pablo Diez scored a goal in the first 45 minutes, but it wasn't enough as the Chaps allowed three scores in the second half en route to a 3-2 loss to West Texas A&M on Saturday at Buffalo Sports Park.

LCU dropped to 3-3 overall, while the Buffs kept their undefeated mark intact at 6-0.

Diez scored a goal in the 38th minutes before WT's Giancarlo Saldana netted two scores in the 47th and 73rd to take the lead. LCU's Luca Hollenstein scored the equalizer before WT's Yotam Balbul notched the game-winner in the 88th.

LCU women's soccer

LAREDO — Celia Duratem, Makenna Pate and Arely Jimenez each scored a goal as the Lady Chaps secured a 3-1 road victory over Texas A&M International in a Lone Star Conference contest at Dustdevil Field.

With the triumph, LCU (4-0-2, 1-0-1) tallied its first conference victory while the Dustdevils (1-6-0, 0-2-0) are still winless.

Duarte started the scoring in the 12th minute before Pate (19th) advanced the lead to 2-0. Leianna Jimenez sliced the Texas A&M International's deficit in half with a goal in the 27th before Jimenez added an insurance score in the 78th.

Tech volleyball

The Texas Tech volleyball team dropped a 15-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-19, 15-7 home decision to Kansas to open Big 12 play Friday night at United Supermarkets Arena. 

KJ Adams set a career-high with 27 digs, adding five assists for the Red Raiders (10-4, 0-1), who had a  four-match winning streak snapped. Kenna Sauer's 18 kills matched Kansas' Jenny Mosser, leading the way for their respective squads. Reagan Cooper tallied 14 kills on a .306 clip with three blocks. Alex Kirby collected her fourth double-double of the season with 41 assists and 11 digs.

The Jayhawks responded winning a tight second set to level the match at one set apiece. With the Red Raiders leading 22-20 late in the frame the Jayhawks took a timeout. Kansas rallied for the next five points out of the break for a 25-22 set win.

Three early aces from the Red Raiders gave Tech an 8-4 lead as Kansas used its first timeout in the third set. A couple of attack errors led to a second Jayhawk timeout with Tech ahead 15-10. Kansas pulled within two out of the timeout, but the Red Raiders strung together four straight points with kills from Sauer and Cooper to lead 21-15. The Red Raiders used an 8-2 run to close out the second frame 25-17 and take a 2-1 advantage in the match.

An 11-2 run helped Kansas edge out a 25-18 set four win and force a decisive fifth set. With the Red Raiders leading 13-11, the Jayhawks rattled off 11 of the next 13 points to take a 22-15 advantage. The Jayhawks finished the set with a solo block from Caroline Crawford.

The Jayhawks (9-3, 1-0) increased their winning streak to seven contests with the triumph.

Texas Tech is searching for its first win against Kansas since 2019, a five-set victory in Lubbock. 

What's next?

The Red Raiders and Kansas are scheduled for a 6 p.m. Saturday match to conclude the weekend series. Texas Tech senior middle blocker Brooke Kanas will be celebrated with a special senior recognition ceremony during the match.
