Florida reported 7,074 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, a continuing decline that pushed the 7-day trend to a 67-day low, according to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The state also increased its death count by eight on Saturday. Deaths are counted on the day they occur, not the day they are reported, and can take up to two weeks or more to be reflected in the data. The 7-day trend for deaths based on the date the deaths were reported stood at 328, unchanged for the past three days.

At least 53,124 Floridians have now died of COVID-related causes through Friday.

The pressure on hospitals has continued to ease since the end of August. On Friday, the number of people hospitalized for COVID in Florida was 7,113, an 20.7% decline over the past week, according to data from the Florida Hospital Association.
