Netflix’s TUDUM — a global virtual fan event — just revealed our first look at Bridgerton Season 2! We finally have our first sneak peek at the show’s next big romance: a love triangle between the bitter, heartbroken Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), his desired intended, the lovely Edwina Sharma (Charithra Chandran), and Edwina’s protective and spirited elder sister Kate (Simone Ashley). Bridgerton Season 1 standout Nicola Coughlan sat down with the trio for a tea-spilling chat before unveiling the Bridgerton Season 2 first look. And Bridgerton fans, I have feelings about it all!
Bridgerton Season 2 will be inspired by the second novel in Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series: The Viscount Who Loved Me. As Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) is enjoying her happily ever after with her Duke (Regé-Jean Page), the attention shifts to her big brother Anthony. Fans will note that Anthony’s bachelor status was a sore spot last year as it is his responsibility as the Viscount to marry and produce an heir. After his on/off lover Sienna (Sabrina Bartlett) finally jilts him for a protector, Anthony is broken hearted to a numb degree. Bridgerton Season 1 ended with him deciding that it was time for him to find a wife. The catch? Anthony is determined not to fall in love in the process.
The Viscount Who Loved Me opens with the introduction of two sisters to the ton: the beautiful “diamond of the season” Edwina and her tempestuous older sister Kate. Kate has no interest in marrying, but wants to make sure Edwina does make a love match. When Anthony Bridgerton starts sniffing Edwina’s way, Kate feels the need to run interference. But…could it be?? COULD KATE AND ANTHONY HAVE FEELINGS FOR EACH OTHER?!?
During a conversation moderated by Lady Whistledown herself, Nicola Coughlan, Bridgerton stars Simone Ashley and Jonathan Bailey were pressed on the hype book fans had about “Kanthony” making it to the screen. The actors teased that the coupling would be “passionate” but full of “arguments.” Case in point, Netflix treated fans to their first look at the new season.
In the short clip, Anthony confronts Kate at a ball after she has been eavesdropping on him describing what he is looking for in a wife. While Kate is clearly disgusted with his comments, Anthony can’t help but be a little flirtatious. Also it seems that the two met earlier on horseback…judging from Kate’s quip about his poor horsemanship.
Bridgerton Season 2 will premiere in 2022.
