SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – UPDATE: The Sioux City Police Department said they’ve requested charges be dropped against a man who was charged in a shooting on Friday.
According to a release, detectives with the Sioux City Police Department have requested that the Woodbury Count Attorney’s Office drop charges filed against Eric-Jahim Word in connection to the shooting on September 24 in the 200 block of Nebraska Street that left one man hospitalized.
Word’s arrest was based on available information at that time. As detectives continued their investigation,
new information was discovered indicating that a witness intentionally misidentified Word as the person
who fired the shots. Word was involved in the incident and fled before officers arrived.
The correct suspect has been identified and detectives are working with the County Attorney’s Office to file appropriate charges against that person.
According to a motion to dismiss in the Woodbury County Courthouse, a 17-year-old juvenile admitted during a follow-up interview with authorities on Monday she intentionally mislead the investigation to keep the anonymity of the shooter, who she was friends with for several years. She then provided more information that led to the positive identification of the shooter, who is a 17-year-old juvenile and now the primary suspect of the shooting.
The court has approved the motion to dismiss, dropping all charges that were originally charged against Word.
PREVIOUS: Three people were arrested after a shooting incident on Friday afternoon.
According to a press release from the Sioux City Police Department, they arrested Eric-Jaheim Word, 19, of Sioux City, for attempted murder, going armed with intent, and trafficking in stolen weapons for a shooting on Friday in the 200 block of Nebraska Street.
Two other people were arrested in connection to this shooting. Joy-Esther Scott, 39, of Sioux City, and Miracle J. Walls, 23, of Sioux City, were charged with second-degree burglary.

Officials stated all three people had been in vehicles that were following someone they had a feud with, and they blocked that person’s path on Nebraska Street.
After blocking the path, authorities said Scott and Walls opened the woman’s car door and began to assault her, causing minor injuries.
The woman’s brother allegedly arrived on the scene after a call from the victim, and he attempted to stop the three attackers.
The brother was shot once in the back and once in the chest, and he was taken to MercyOne due to his injuries. Police claimed Word was the suspected shooter.
