A Cape Cod man is dead after he was struck while walking on Route 6 in Harwich, according to the Massachusetts State Police.State police said the crash happened just before 5:05 a.m. Saturday near the 79-mile marker on Route 6 east.The victim, identified as 68-year-old Justin Small, of Brewster, was walking in the roadway when he was struck by a 2013 Ford F-150 that was being driven by a 22-year-old man from Willington, Connecticut, according to authorities.No other vehicles were involved in the crash.Video from an independent photographer at the scene showed state troopers investigating a Ford F-150 pickup truck that had heavy damage to the right side of its windshield and visible damage to its hood.State police did not identify the driver involved and did not indicate whether or not he would face any charges in connection with the crash. The Harwich Police Department also confirmed the deadly crash, but did not release any further information. State police said Route 6 was closed in both directions for approximately 35 minutes. Harwich police did notify the public that Route 6 west was temporarily shut down between the old Exit 10 in Harwich, which is now Exit 82, and the old Exit 9 in Dennis, which is now Exit 78.In addition, Harwich police said that the reopening of that stretch of Route 6 west was further delayed by another crash.According to Harwich police, a three-vehicle collision happened within 10 minutes of state police advising them to reopen that section of Route 6 west. That crash, which state police did not comment on, forced an extended closure of the westbound lane.The deadly pedestrian crash remains under investigation by Troop D of the Massachusetts State Police, the MSP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the MSP Crime Scene Services Section.
