Everybody knows that the Miami Hurricanes are struggling badly this football season. And, moreover, the struggles have been ever-present for the better part of 20 years.

And while fans have been quite vocal with their displeasure with the state of affairs, and local journalists have detailed the many issues plaguing the Canes on multiple levels, National Media outlets have started to join in the conversation.

Particularly pointed in their dissection of the Canes has been ESPN. On Friday, Desmond Howard and Tom Luginbill lit into the Canes.

Yikes, indeed.

But wait, there’s more.

On Saturday morning, the crew on College Gameday, led by Kirk Herbstreit — a longtime STAUNCH supporter of the Canes among the national media — added this treatise that called things like they are: a disgrace.

Again, painful for some to hear but I personally appreciate Herbstreit not pulling any punches and calling it straight like it is.

There are many, many issues with Miami Athletics at the moment. Not only is the football team struggling to a 1-2 start and missing more tackles than any team in the country by a MASSIVE margin, the basketball teams are struggling as well, and don’t even get me started on my first love: Canes Baseball.

Will this groundswell of national discussion about what ails Miami incite immediate change? Probably not.

But the volume is getting turned up on everyone from the Athletic Director on down, and something is gonna have to give. Miami cannot continue to be a national laughingstock, and when the biggest sports outlets start dumping on you daily, it’s time to make changes.
