Update 09/27/2021: Google has now extended the sale to more countries and included discounts on the PixelBook Go Laptop. Read more here.

Despite an encouraging price leak, Google’s Pixel 6 is yet to launch. But that hasn’t stopped the company from offering an early discount during this weekend's surprise sale.

Spotted by 9To5Mac, Google is offering 15% off a range of products - including the Nest Hub Max and Pixel Buds A-Series - bought before the 27th September to celebrate its 23rd birthday. Buying something with the code "BDAYSURPRISE" comes with a promise of “$70 [AUD] off upcoming Pixel 6 phones” via an emailed code, which must be used by December 31st 2021.

The catch is that this is only available in Australian, Japanese and Taiwanese Google stores. The discounts across all three countries converts to roughly $50 (US) off the new handset, although it’s not clear if a similar Pixel 6 discount will be extended to the US and other countries.

We don’t have a release date for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 pro, but the promo code expiry date suggests it will be released before December 31st. That’s not a surprise considering Google typically launches its new handsets in October, with the pixel 5 landing on October 29th last year.

The cost of the new Android handset isn’t known either, but the search company isn’t shy about slashing the price of its products soon after release. Google knocked $50 off the Pixel 5 on Black Friday 2020, less than a month after the phone was launched. Best Buy also knocked $100 off the phone for the same shopping period. In previous years Google has discounted its flagships in the run up to Christmas.

The discounts aren’t just reserved for Australia, Taiwan and Japan. The UK Google store is also teasing a 24-hour sale event on Monday 27th.  The same time-limited sale period happened on the 27th September last year, too, which knocked 22% off selected Nest products. But Pixel phones and Pixel Buds weren’t included in the price cuts. This time around, for those Asia-Pacific region countries, the Pixel Buds A-Series are on sale too. I suspect it will be the same in the UK's sale event, although it's not sure if Google will offer a similar Pixel 6 promo-code deal.
