Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street star Georgia Taylor has opened up about the possibility of Toyah Battersby and Imran Habeeb fostering more children in the future, admitting that the fostering storyline is "really great to explore".

As Toyah and Imran nervously await the sentencing of Kelly Neelan for Seb Franklin's murder, Georgia has praised Coronation Street for shining a "spotlight" on the issue of fostering – and revealed whether she thinks Kelly will return to the cobbles. The two took in a baby over Christmas and fostered Kelly.

"I think she would like to have Kelly back, but what will be interesting is if the opportunity comes up to foster another child while Kelly is in prison," Georgia said ahead of next week's court reveal. "The maternal nature in Toyah is something that she can't switch off.

"Toyah is more of a realist while Imran has become so emotionally involved in Kelly's case. Toyah cares about Kelly immensely but she's also a bit more realistic about what her chances are of actually getting out."

Adding that Toyah would happily welcome Kelly back "with open arms", Georgia revealed that she would love to see her character and Imran "look after another child" if the future.

"I think it offers a really great opportunity for a variety of storylines and when you look at a variety of ages of different children – that's what is really interesting to explore, the difference between them fostering a toddler or fostering a troubled teenager," she explained.

"Both comes with their own huge challenges so it opens up a real sense of variety. I hope it continues because I think it's really great to explore."

Acknowledging Corrie's history of fostering storylines with Rita Tanner and Anna and Faye Windass, Georgia added: "I think it's a really good thing to shine a spotlight on. It's nice to continue that tradition on."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
