Pappy’s Stowaway Cafe owners gave away free groceries to people in need Wednesday.
On a video announcing the event, Callie Hines, who owns the business with her mother, Suzette Callais, said, “We are so thankful we have the ability and resources to help those in our community who are struggling.
“Ida really had a very strong effect on our town. Even before that, we know our city and our parish struggled with poverty. God is providing now,” she said.
The grocery give-away Wednesday was not the first time this main street Ponchatoula restaurant has provided free food to the needy.
Earlier this month following Hurricane Ida, the “Pappy’s crew” served over 7,000 free meals.
“Being from Buras, Louisiana, originally we know all too well what it takes to come back from a storm like this,” Hines said. “We know the long hours y’all are putting in to piece your lives back together. A hot meal is a little thing to some, but in moments like this it can mean the difference between a good and bad day.”
