HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL - Lexington outlasts Irmo in OT 27-24, Dutch Fork wins home opener

Wildcat Stadium was the site Friday of the latest Lexington High School Athletic Hall of Fame Induction class.
The fans in attendance also witnessed an overtime thriller in the latest "Battle of the Dam".
Keshawn Gladden's 3-yard touchdown run gave Lexington the 27-24 victory over Irmo.
It was the 4th consecutive win by the Wildcats (4-1), their longest winning streak under head coach Perry Woolbright. Lexington won despite losing running back Jonah Norris with an apparent arm injury in the 1st half. 
The Wildcats took a 7-0 lead in the 1st quarter on Taiden Mines' 8-yard touchdown pass to Jarrod Mewborn. 
Irmo answered with a 6-yard scoring run by Whiteside to tie the game at 7-7. It was the 1st of 3 ties in a contest which had 4 lead changes. 
Fresh off winning SC Football Coaches Association Class 5A Lower State Offensive Player of the Week honors, Norris scored on a 1-yard run with 6:47 left in the 2nd quarter to put the Wildcats ahead 14-7.
Norris finished with 94 rushing yards. 
The Yellow Jackets answered 82 seconds later with a 44-yard touchdown pass from Whiteside to DeAree Rogers to tie the game. 
With 14.1 seconds left and facing a 3rd and 13 in Irmo territory, Manes fired a 14-yard touchdown pass to Kamodi Maxwell as he finished with 129 yards. 

At halftime, Lexington honored its 5 newest Hall of Fame members. Receiving induction were golfers Lauren Stephenson and Maureen Dunnagan, former baseball standout Josh Reagan, cross-country standout Drew Harris and 2-sport standout Brian Foulks. 
With 2:27 left in the 3rd quarter, Whiteside found Errick Tucker for a 5-yard touchdown pass to deadlock the game at 21-21. Whiteside finished with 247 passing yards, 184 caught on 10 passes by Rodgers, and Turner rushed for 111 yards. 
Irmo had a chance to win with less than a minute left but were stopped at the 3-yard line. It did start overtime with possession and took the lead on Jose Villanueva's 27-yard field goal.
Lexington needed just 2 plays to set up Gladden's touchdown run. Up next is the "Battle of Lexington" with archrival River Bluff next week. 


Dutch Fork 42, Spartanburg 13
The top-ranked Silver Foxes played their 1st home game of the season. 
It was business as usual for the 5-time defending Class 5A champions who amassed 527  total yards of offense to extend their winning streaks:
- 54th straight game without a loss
- 53rd straight win over an in-state team
- 28th straight home game without a loss
- 27th straight home win over in-state teams
Dutch Fork (4-0) scored 42 unanswered points to open the game. Following an 8-yard touchdown run by Jarvis Green, who finished with 118 rushing yards, Davin Patterson and Antonio Williams connected on 3 straight touchdown pass plays for 47, 65 and 29 yards to close out the 1st half.
Green scored on a 1-yard run with 7:32 left in the 3rd quarter and Patterson found Nick Sovell for a 3-yard touchdown closed out the Dutch Fork scoring. 
Patterson finished 13-17 passing for 238 yards and Williams caught 6 passes for 183 yards. 
The Silver Foxes open Region 5-5A play next week at White Knoll. A win or tie would match Christ Church's SC High School League record of 55 consecutive victories.


Gaffney 38, Gray Colleagie 35
The 2nd ranked War Eagles came within inches of forcing overtime against the 3rd ranked Class 5A Indians. 
After rallying from 17 points down in the 4th quarter, Gray College recovered an onside kick with 25 seconds left. The field goal attempt from the Gaffney 37 fell just short for Gray College. 
The War Eagles led 14-3 in the 1st half led by 2 touchdown runs by KZ Adams. Gaffney closed the lead to 14-10 at halftime on a touchdown run by Tyler Smith. 
The Indians took a 17-10 lead early in the 3rd quarter on a 20-yard touchdown pass by Grayson Loftis to Ja'darius Littlejohn. Gray Collegiate answered with a 19-yard touchdown run by Adams to regain the lead midway in the 3rd quarter. 
Adams finished with 213 rushing yards to close in on the 1,000-yard mark. 
Gaffney added a 1-yard touchdown run by Littlejohn to extend their lead to 31-21 entering the 4th quarter. A 6-yard touchdown run by Smith extended the lead to 38-21 with 7:39 left in the game.
Tre Robinson sparked a late rally, completing a 34-yard touchdown pass to Austin Harris with 5:44 left and rushing for an 11-yard score with 24 seconds left. He finished with 184 passing yards. 
Gray Collegiate (4-1) opens Region 3-2A play at Batesburg-Leesville. 


Gilbert 49, Wagener-Salley 6 
Alias Graham-Woodberry rushed for 169 yards and 2 touchdowns and Jaden Allen-Hendrix had 151 rushing yards and a touchdown as the 8th ranked Indians rolled to their 3rd straight victory.
Gilbert (4-1) raced out to a 21-0 lead on touchdown runs by Graham-Woodberry and Allen-Hendrix and a 35-yard touchdown pass from Chance Jennings to Gage Gunter.
Wagener-Salley's Cameron Davis scored on a 7-yard run with 35 seconds left in the 1st half. Gilbert outscored the War Eagles 28-0 in the 2nd half with touchdown runs by Jennings, Kendrick Mitchell, Graham-Woodberry and Josh Black. 
Riley Barnes went 3-3 on PATs for the Indians, who open Region 5-3A play at home next week against Orangeburg-Wilkinson. 


Northwestern 35, River Bluff 21 
The 5th ranked Wildcats jumped out to a 21-0 lead and Will Mattison threw for 258 yards and 2 touchdowns for the win in The Swamp.
Hunter Sheppard threw for 134 yards and touchdown for the Gators (2-3), who face archrival Lexington. 


WW King Academy 38, Cathedral Academy 12 
The Knights picked up their 2nd straight victory to improve to 3-2 on the season.
Up next is a matchup with Palmetto Christian Academy. 


AC Flora 50, Chapin 28 
The Eagles jumped out to a 14-0 lead, only to give up 50 unanswered points to the top-ranked defending Class 4A champions at Memorial Stadium. 
Bennett Galloway opened the game returning the kickoff for a touchdown. A 46-yard touchdown pass by Jayden Bradford to Zavier Short with 7:33 left in the 2nd quarter gave the Eagles the advantage. 
AC Flora stormed back to take a 50-14 lead in the 3rd quarter. Bradford scored on a keeper with 1:27 left to close out the scoring.

Lancaster 28, White Knoll 21 (OT)                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         

Jermaine Flowers had a 6-yard touchdown run in overtime to lift the Bruins to an overtime victory. After trailing 6-0, the Timberwolves (1-4) took the lead on a 1-yard run by Jaquez Frederick. In the 3rd quarter, Lancaster reclaimed the lead on a touchdown by Mikal McCollum, only for White Knoll to score 14 unanswered points.

Frederick, who rushed for 211 yards, scored on a 3-yard touchdown and Austin Cunningham connected with Hassan Lee for a 30-yard touchdown to put the Timberwolves up 21-13 with 1:41 left in the 3rd quarter.

After a blocked field goal, Lancaster tied the game with 3:42 left in the 4th quarter on a 11-yard touchdown run by McCollum and 2-point conversion run by Flowers.

The Timberwolves had an opportunity to reclaim the lead with 3 seconds left, but Maleah Perry’s 34-yard field goal was blocked for a 2nd time in the game. 

White Knoll returns to action Friday at home against top-ranked Dutch Fork. It is the WACH 57 Sonic Friday Night Rivals Game of the Week.  

Pelion 34, Ridgeland-Hardeeville 14 
Azwon James rushed for 158 yards and 3 touchdowns, Peyton Whitten threw for 136 yards and touchdown and Jacob Osmanski had 5 receptions for 159 yards and a score in the Homecoming win.

South Aiken 42, Swansea 8 
Batesburg-Leesville 33, Dreher 18
