A 5-year-old boy was seriously injured in a car wreck Friday morning on Georgia Highway 16 near the South Walkers Mill Road.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the wreck happened at about 6:18 a.m.
According to a GSP incident report, a 2003 Acura driven by a Jonesboro woman was on the wrong side of the road going east on highway 16 in the left lane.
The Hyundai, driven by a Griffin woman, was traveling west on highway 16 in the left lane.
Based on the roadway evidence, both drivers tried to make evasive maneuvers to avoid a collision, the incident report stated.
The Acura began to turn toward the center median and the Hyundai began turning toward the right lane.
The Acura then hit the Hyundai in the front with its front. According to a wreck diagram in the incident report, it was not a head-on collision.
According to the GSP report, 5-year old boy, who was a passenger in the Hyundai, had serious injuries and was LifeFlighted to Egleston Hospital in Atlanta.
According to the GSP report, the driver of the Hyundai and the driver of the Acura suffered minor injuries and were not taken for treatment.
At 7:07 a.m., the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office sent out an alert there had been a wreck with serious injuries on highway 16 and westbound lanes were closed for air ambulance.
