After 0-3 start, Galesburg High School football team secures second straight victory

QUINCY — The Galesburg High School football team hit the road for Quincy on Friday night for a Western Big 6 Conference affair.

And the Silver Streaks came away with a 35-9 victory over the Blue Devils. The win marked the second straight for Galesburg after an 0-3 start in the 2021 season. 

Senior Hunter DeVena caught a 5-yard TD pass from junior Tristan Legate to put the Streaks on the scoreboard with just over five minutes left in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead for GHS. 

Quincy scored with just under two minutes left in the first but the extra point attempt was blocked by Streaks junior Nolan Carl. A 23-yard field goal gave the Blue Devils a 9-7 lead with nine minutes left in the second quarter.

Sophomore Amarie Richardson broke the plane with just over two minutes left before the half and fellow sophomore Sam Satisky made the extra point kick attempt to give Galesburg a 14-9 advantage over Quincy.

Senior Damian Thomas had an interception for the Streaks which put them deep into Quincy territory, and not long after came a 4-yard touchdown run from junior Cam Aguirre, which put Galesburg up 21-9 over Quincy.

Aguirre had a 102-yard interception return for a TD with 2:30 left in the third quarter, and the Streaks took a 28-9 lead against the Blue Devils.

From three yards outRichardson found the end zone with just over five minutes remaining in the contest to put Galesburg ahead 35-9.
