A Merced man has been arrested following a brawl at a pizza parlor which escalated to a fatal shooting, according to police.

On the evening of Monday, September 13, a fight reportedly broke out between two groups of people at Mountain Mike’s on West Olive Avenue, ultimately escalating to a shooting that wounded three people, police said.

The three victims were quickly taken to regional trauma centers, but one of them — a 38-year-old man whose name has not been released — later passed away as a result of his injuries.

Responding officers contacted 21-year-old Adrian Diego Calderon, whom they say had been detained at the scene by one of the victims. Police soon identified Calderon as the primary suspect, alleging that he opened fire inside the restaurant sometime after the fight broke out.

After being treated for injuries he received during the incident, Calderon was arrested and booked on suspicion of one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
