St. Panther

Now making East L.A. her home, singer / songwriter St. Panther has shared a late-summer jammer with the release of “Problems,” one of the first singles since the release of her much loved These Days EP. Glowing piano tumbles give way to the snap-elastic-bounce of rubbery bass as Panther — in that ever-soothing, raspy croon of theirs — evokes breathlessly the anxieties and bittersweetness of life. A tender confessional that builds on her penchant for mixing her love of R&B and soul with bedroom-pop lushness, “Problems” is as much a tender confessional about our “collective turbulence,” as she calls it, as it is a key-twinkling smooth soul jam you can find some funky catharsis to.

“Problems” also comes with an incredibly creative lyric video by Grant Prettyman that animates Panther’s hands and piano as they roll through the song’s melancholy shuffle of a melody. The new single is also accompanied by electronic-bumper “Real Love Takes Time” — a double-serving of Panther’s potently soulful hooks that is made all the better by the song’s shimmering synth work and buoyant sonics.

“It’s beyond exciting to be sharing new music again. This year has felt like it’s been a lot about release and embracing the newness that comes with it,” St. Panther said of the new song. “There’s been a bit of collective turbulence to arrive at that space of understanding why our obstacles had to become our neighbors on some days. Through it, I’d been sitting at the piano every morning, casting my own turbulence away/bringing in new seasons of my own. Right in the middle of it this song came about. I hope it helps bring in some peace and fresh air to anyone listening!”
