Navy Veteran & Retired President of Gray Jewelers, George E. Gray, Dies at 101

Gray, George E., 101, formerly of Samoset Avenue, Barrington died peacefully on September 23, 2021 at home in Holly Hill, FL surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Katherine (Chandler) Gray.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Thomas B. and Fanny (Colburn) Gray, he lived in Barrington for 67 years and Daytona Beach, FL for 33 years.

Mr. Gray was President of Gray Jewelers, Barrington for 25 years before retiring in 1982.

George was a graduate of Hope High School, Providence, and Bowman Technical School of Lancaster, PA. He was Past President of the Massachusetts-Rhode Island Retailer Jewelers Association, the Viking Division of VMCCA, Veteran Motor Car Club of America, DAARA, and the Daytona Antique Auto Racing Association. He was a Mason of the Panama Canal Consistory and a member of the Overseas Lodge of Providence and the Moose Lodge of Daytona Beach, FL. He enjoyed sailing, antique cars, and racing his open-wheeled vintage race cars.

Mr. Gray was a United States Navy Veteran stationed in Panama during World War II.

He is survived by a daughter, Nancy D. Moore and her companion Eugene Savio of Honolulu, HI; two sons, George L. Gray and his wife Tammy of Barrington and Stephen T. Gray of New Britain, CT; daughter-in-law, Ellen Gray of Riverside; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and dedicated loving caregivers, Lucia and Armando Barbosa. He was the brother of the late Thomas Gray and Lorena Muenchinger.

His Funeral will be held on a date and time to be announced.

Burial will be held in Forrest Chapel Cemetery, Nayatt Road, Barrington.
