Firefly Music Festival back on with new safety guidelines

DOVER, Del. – Firefly Festival is back on this year in Dover, with the 4-day event running from Thursday through Sunday, drawing crowds of nearly 50,000 a day according to organizers.

Headlining artists at the event featured Billie Eilish, Tame Impala, and The Killers.

Vice President of Programming for AEG Firefly Sean O’Connell told 47ABC that many of the events spaces were made to be open-air to better accommodate the crowds.

He says while the event is drawing large crowds, extensive measures were taken to make sure those who were allowed into the campgrounds were being safe.

“If you were vaccinated you had to show your proof of vaccination and match that against your id, we have a health screening at the entrance to all the gates and the camping and that went well we put a lot of energy into that, if you weren’t vaccinated you had to get a lab certified test, you couldn’t do it from home, and it had to happen within 72 hours of arrival,” O’Connell said.

He says the safety was important to make sure the festival would be able to continue and allow many artists who had gained large followings in the past year and a half, to have the chance to perform for their fans in a festival setting.
