SALEM, Ore. – A teenager is in the hospital and two others are facing charges after a shooting at a Salem park on Thursday evening.
Officers were called out to Secor Park on Stockton Avenue South after getting reports of a youth who had been shot. Police started first aid and he was taken to Salem Hospital; officials say he is expected to survive.
Officers learned that five teenagers – four boys and a girl ages 13 to 16 – were in the wooded area of the park. Two of the teens had handguns, Salem Police said.
One of the teens was handling one of the firearms when it discharged, and a round struck another teen below the waist.
Police recovered the guns at the scene and arrested two of the teens on unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, and reckless endangering.
They were both taken to the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center.
