Google wants you to believe the USC Trojans hired Marvin Lewis to be their next head coach. Don’t believe it! It’s fake news.

Albeit a brief error, Trojans fans across the country were given a mini panic attack thanks to the most popular search engine the internet has to offer.

Marvin Lewis was let go as the Cincinnati Bengals head coach after a seemingly endless run of mediocrity. Eventually, Bengals ownership had enough. Soon after, Lewis signed on to be a special assistant to Arizona State Sun Devils head coach Herm Edwards.

A 131-122 career coaching record in the NFL speaks volumes to Lewis’ longevity, but his age and standing in the profession wouldn’t bring much excitement to a USC program that desperately needs it after dealing with Clay Helton for far too long.

USC football: No, Marvin Lewis is not the head coach

It’s tough to ruin a beautiful Friday night in southern California, but Google is trying, to their credit.

The Trojans are swinging big, and have been linked to everyone from Urban Meyer to Luke Fickell. Lewis, to no one’s surprise, has not been mentioned.

Still, the longtime Bengals coach should go the Gus Malzahn route and deny interest in a job he was never even considered for.

That, my friends, is what we in the business call a power move.
