UFC star Jon Jones arrested in Las Vegas

UFC star Jon Jones was arrested at 5:45 Friday morning at a resort near Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road, Officer Larry Hadfield of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department told ESPN.

Jones, a former UFC light heavyweight champion, is being charged with misdemeanor battery domestic violence and injuring or tampering with a vehicle, Hadfield said.

According to Clark County Detention Center inmate records, Jones is on a 12-hour hold. His total bail is listed as $8,000.

Jones’ adviser Richard Schaefer told ESPN, “The facts are still developing, we really don’t know yet the full story so I’m not going to make any comment until I have a chance to talk to Jon and until we see see how this plays out.”

Jones, who turned 34 in July, is considered one of the greatest mixed martial artists ever. His arrest occurred just hours after his 2013 UFC fight with Alexander Gustafsson was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame on Thursday night at Park MGM.

At the ceremony, Jones told ESPN he has been bulking up for a jump to heavyweight, and hopes to reach 270 pounds for his debut. He said he currently weighs 255.

Jones’ fighting career and brand partnerships have been impacted by prior arrests.

In March 2020, he agreed to a guilty plea for a DWI charge. He was initially arrested on four charges, which included the DWI, along with negligent use of a firearm, driving without proof of insurance and possession of an open container. Those charges were dropped by prosecutors in the plea deal.
