Historically Black neighborhood in Huntersville fighting back against gentrification

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Families in Huntersville are concerned they will be forced out of their historic neighborhood, and now they’re planning to fight back.

First named Pottstown in 1909, the historically Black neighborhood was home to many formerly enslaved people. Residents are worried it will be overrun with new developments.

“We’ve got to stop this nonsense about gentrification. You’re gonna rob me to give somebody else a platform of more wealth. Doesn’t make sense,” resident Betty Jane Caldwell said.
