CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Two important members of the Indians returned to the lineup on Friday night to face the White Sox when right-hander Shane Bieber and shortstop Amed Rosario were activated. Bieber came off the injured list, while Rosario came off the COVID-19 related injured list.

Bieber will be making his first start since June 13, when he left the mound against Seattle with a strained muscle in his right rotator cuff. Rosario will be playing his first game since Sept. 14, when he left the team to return to the Dominican Republic to be with his gravely ill grandmother.

The Indians removed Rosario from the family emergency/bereavement list and placed him on the COVD-19 list until he passed protocols and was allowed to rejoin the team.

To make room for Bieber and Rosario on the 26-man roster, infielder Ernie Clement and left-hander Francisco Perez were optioned to Class AAA Columbus. Right-hander J.C. Mejia, the 29th player for Thursday’s doubleheader against the White Sox, was also optioned to Columbus.

Right-hander Nick Sandlin (right shoulder) was moved from the 10-day IL to the 60-day IL to make room for Bieber on the 40-man roster.
