Health officials are warning those who visited locations of a local restaurant in Roanoke that they may have been exposed to hepatitis A.
According to the Roanoke City and Allegheny Health District, an employee who worked at three Famous Anthony's locations was recently diagnosed with hepatitis A.
The employee worked at the locations at 4913 Grandin Road, 6499 Williamson Road and 221 Crystal Spring Ave.
Anyone who visited one of those locations from Aug. 10 to Aug. 26 may have been exposed, according to officials.
Those who may have been exposed and are not vaccinated against hepatitis A should monitor for the following symptoms to prevent further spread:
- jaundice: yellowing of the skin or the eyes
- fever
- fatigue
- loss of appetite
- nausea
- vomiting
- abdominal pain
- dark urine
- light-colored stools
If you develop any of these symptoms, you are urged to seek medical care and let your healthcare provider know of your possible exposure.
It is also very important for people with symptoms to stay home from work, especially if they work in food service, health care or child care, according to the RCAHD.
The RCAHD said it is investigating nine cases of hepatitis A connected to this exposure. The leadership team at Famous Anthony’s has been assisting, and is fully cooperating, with the investigation.
