Rollin’ at McPolin

PARK CITY, Utah. — Before the clear caveat of “weather permitting” kicks in for the season, students at McPolin Elementary School were enjoying the last vestiges of a postcard-worthy September half-day Friday in Park City today.

Clad in their spirit-wear red McPolin Moose t-shirts and helmets buckled, some pedaled and some pushed scooters all to the music on the loudspeakers.

Lest one was inclined to think this was a free-for-all, Principal Bob Edmiston, at the helm since 2006, was directing the closed-circuit traffic, blocked off from cars, in his high-vis vest, ensuring proper safety and etiquette were being observed for the rules-of-the road.

Edmiston said, “We believe it’s important to give students an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors in a group setting while learning about spatial awareness and bike skills and this is a perfect place to practice.”

A group of six nine-year-old fourth-grade girls stopped riding just long enough to get in on the media interview expressing their exuberance for the fun Friday with friends.
